No. The result is a standard project file. Open it in the target version directly — nothing else is required.

Yes. Older project files open fine in newer releases. What was removed simply does not come back.

Yes — that is what downgrading means. Effects, tools and timeline structures that do not exist in the old version can only be removed.

No. Downgrading is one-way and removed content is not stored in the output file. Always keep a backup of the original project.

Try a target version closer to the source. If it still will not open, the project relies on too many features the target does not support — the older the target, the more likely that is.

No. After Effects conversions run entirely in your browser — the file never leaves your machine, so we never even have the opportunity to receive it. The Premiere line uses this site’s downgrade engine, and that engine can be self-hosted on your own machine, in which case your project never leaves your network either. Even with the hosted service, your file is not retained after conversion and is never used for anything else.

No. The engine reads the original and produces a new project file; the original is left untouched. We still recommend keeping your own separate backup.

A failed conversion leaves no partial file behind. You can retry with the original, or pick a target version closer to the source. If it keeps failing, get in touch.

No. Everything is free during the open beta, no account is required, and every converter is available right away.

Not during the open beta. If paid options are introduced later they will be announced well in advance, and a usable free tier will always remain.
