After Effects can only be brought down to a target strictly older than the source. Stability labels below reflect what we saw in testing.

AE 2018–2021 are experimental targets: complex projects may need manual adjustment. Targets from 2023 onwards were stable in testing. A target must be strictly older than the source version.
Because these two projects are not the same problem
A Premiere Pro project and an After Effects project are entirely different things, and what works for one does not work for the other. So rather than forcing both into a single tool, each gets its own line — and the Ae line runs entirely in your browser.
Understand the project first
No guessing and no number-swapping — only a project that has genuinely been brought down will open.
Work to the target version
Anything the target cannot read is removed, while keeping the file itself complete and readable.
Always a new file
Your original project is never overwritten. If the result is not good enough, start again.
